Understanding Surf Conditions

What to know before you go

🌊

Swell Direction

South shore (Poipu) gets best waves from south swells, typically May-September. Summer is prime surf season for this area.

πŸ’¨

Wind Patterns

Early morning (6-9 AM) typically has lightest winds and cleanest conditions. Trade winds pick up afternoon, creating choppier surface.

πŸŒ™

Tides & Currents

Some breaks work better on incoming tide, others on outgoing. We monitor conditions daily and choose best locations.

Don't Worry About Conditions!

We monitor surf conditions daily and choose the best location for your lesson based on skill level, weather, and wave forecasts. You just show up - we handle the rest.

Beach Safety Tips

⚠️

Never Turn Your Back on the Ocean

Waves come in sets and can vary greatly in size. Always be aware of the ocean, especially when near the shore break.

🏊

Swim Near Lifeguard Stations

Poipu Beach Park has lifeguards on duty. If you're swimming without instruction, stay in areas where lifeguards are present.

πŸͺΈ

Protect the Reef

Wear reef-safe sunscreen, don't stand on coral, and take only photos. Our reefs are fragile ecosystems that need our protection.

🌊

Respect Your Limits

If conditions look too challenging, they probably are. There's no shame in choosing a calmer day or asking for guidance from locals or lifeguards.
